From 2000 to 2003, the theme song to Home and Away was sung by The Robertson Brothers and it was the first version to use only male vocals. A 30-second updated version by The Robertson Brothers was used from 2004 to 2006. In January 2007, a new version was introduced and performed by Israel Cannan, who played the character Wazza in the show. After Cannan's version received many complaints from fans, the Seven Network decided to re-record the theme song in April 2007 with vocals provided by Luke Dolahenty. A shorter, 15-second version sung by Dolahenty and Tarryn Stokes debuted in 2009. Home and Away has been sold to over eighty countries around the world, making it one of Australia's most successful media exports.
Rosie decides to keep the baby and she later leaves the Bay to live in the city with her father. During the show's first season in 1988, a rape storyline for the character Carly Morris outraged the public and a protest erupted, as viewers deemed it an inappropriate subject to be covering in an early evening time slot. They were replaced by a large photo collage showing various locations around Summer Bay.

They return to the caravan park and discover an injured Romeo Smith in the shed. Maddy fetches Roo to help and she and Spencer later decide that they can trust Roo. Spencer is given a job in the bait shop and Maddy reveals that they are not brother and sister, but lovers. Spencer's brother Chris turns up in Summer Bay and becomes a third wheel in their relationship. Madeline "Maddy" Osborne, played by Kassandra Clementi, made her first screen appearance on 24 January 2013.
Oscar, Evelyn and Kyle are locked inside a shipping container. Ethan goes to the hospital to tell Hannah not to worry about the twins anymore. Hannah helps him, but he later goes into cardiac arrest and dies.

While Seven Network executives were unconvinced by the idea, audience research was positive. When Zac comes to visit, Ethan greets him "warmly" and tries to pass the cult off as a group enlightenment camp. Zac eventually teams up with Ethan's sister-in-law Hannah to try to get the children out of the cult, but it proves difficult and Ethan is "hard to fight." The character has also been described as being "controlling". Carena Crawford from All About Soap branded the character "Evil Ethan". Palm Beach in Sydney's Northern Beaches district has been used as the location for Summer Bay since Home and Away began in 1988. It has since become popular with tourists, and tours to the show's exterior sets at Palm Beach run throughout the year. The exterior scenes are filmed mainly at Palm Beach and at Fisherman's Beach in Collaroy. Interior scenes for the show were filmed at the Seven Network's Sydney studios in Epping until 2010. Following the closure of these studios in early 2010, the interiors are now filmed at the Australian Technology Park in Redfern. The Jackeroo Ranch estate in Kenthurst had been used for the exterior sets of the Summer Bay House and Caravan Park since 1988.
She told Tim Martain from The Mercury that she was "thrilled" to receive the ongoing role of Ricky. She explained "I wanted Ricky more than anything I've ever auditioned for. I often think of my Nan . Home and Away was often on the telly at her house...and now I'm a River Girl." Ricky is Adam Sharpe's younger sister. Amy Mills from New Idea revealed that Ricky would arrive in Summer Bay to attend Heath Braxton's engagement party. She also became a love interest for Heath's older brother, Brax , who she has known since he was a teenager. In 2014, Sveen won the Most Popular New Talent Logie Award for her portrayal of Ricky. After both sets were destroyed by a bushfire in December 2002, the caravan park set was moved and filmed at other locations such as the Waratah Park Earth Sanctuary between 2007–09 and the Lane Cove River Tourist Park between 2010 and 2014. A replica of the Summer Bay House was rebuilt in its original location at the Kenthurst estate several years later, with the exception of a grey roof instead of a red one. The caravan park set moved back to the estate after the house was rebuilt, and both exterior sets made their on-screen returns in 2015.
All characters are introduced by the soap's executive producer, Lucy Addario. The 26th season of Home and Away began airing from 21 January 2013. The first introduction of the year was Zac MacGuire then followed by Courtney Freeman, Maddy Osborne, Spencer Harrington and Rosie Prichard who all made their debuts in the same month. Josh, Andy Barrett and Hannah Wilson debuted in August, while Zac's family – Ethan, Evelyn and Oscar MacGuire – began appearing from September, as did Nate Cooper. Jade Montgomery and Matt Page arrived in October, while Phoebe Nicholson debuted in November. The character and Clark's casting was announced on 7 June 2010 by a reporter from The Advertiser.
