Katarina receives evidence that Brax breached his bail conditions, but Kyle tries desperately to persuade her of his brother's innocence, and Oscar is nowhere to be found as Maddy begins her chemotherapy treatment.
Spencer gets into a relationship with Sasha Bezmel , and Maddy is jealous. They have sex within weeks of becoming a couple, further infuriating Maddy. Chris returns to the Bay to try and win Sasha's sister Indi Walker back, and he argues with Sasha, trapping Spencer in the middle again. Spencer was a teen runaway, who arrived in Summer Bay with Maddy Osborne . They initially set up home in the local high school, but are discovered by Sasha Bezmel .

All characters are introduced by the soap's executive producer, Lucy Addario. The 26th season of Home and Away began airing from 21 January 2013. The first introduction of the year was Zac MacGuire then followed by Courtney Freeman, Maddy Osborne, Spencer Harrington and Rosie Prichard who all made their debuts in the same month. Josh, Andy Barrett and Hannah Wilson debuted in August, while Zac's family – Ethan, Evelyn and Oscar MacGuire – began appearing from September, as did Nate Cooper. Jade Montgomery and Matt Page arrived in October, while Phoebe Nicholson debuted in November. The character and Clark's casting was announced on 7 June 2010 by a reporter from The Advertiser.

On 12 May 2020, it was announced that the show would recommence production following the nine-week suspension. Storylines were rewritten to limit close contact between the actors. Miles struggles to keep Rabbit's visions quiet resulting in an outburst at school, which gets him suspended. Rabbit has another premonition involving Elijah Johnson (Jay Laga'aia), Leah Patterson-Baker and several school children in danger on an excursion. She and Miles then discover the group are unconscious due to an exposed gas main on the site. Miles and Rabbit part ways on the beach, after he sees a vision of Louise at the water's edge and goes towards her. Rabbit stops him and states that her mother will look after her and she heads to the sea, disappearing from Miles' life.

After the Seven Network cancelled their soap opera Neighbours on 12 July 1985 due to low ratings, rival Network 10 picked it up and turned it into a success. A couple of years later, Seven's head of drama, Alan Bateman, became desperate to get back into the soap market and began to work out how to launch another soap that was not a copy of Neighbours. While on a trip to Kangaroo Point, New South Wales with his family, Bateman began talking to locals who were "up in arms" over the construction of a foster home for children from the city. Seeing the degree of conflict the "influx of parentless children on a tight-knit community" was having, Bateman came away with the idea for a new serial.

Although Romeo loves his mother, he is often humiliated by her actions and just wants her to be normal. Elijah Johnson played by Jay Laga'aia made his first appearance on 11 February 2010. Laga'aia's casting was announced in November 2009 into the serial to play a new local reverend, Elijah Johnson. Elijah was introduced as a potential love interest for established character Leah Patterson-Baker . Laga'aia left the serial in 2010 but co-star Nicodemou later called for Laga'aia's character to return to the serial. Laga'aia had agreed to rejoin the cast Home and Away and returned to filming at the end of the month.

Of Vittorio, a Sunday Mercury reporter commented "Fancy having a suave man called Prince Vittorio at your beck and call." A Holy Soap reporter revealed that Penn had a connection to Summer Bay through his father. 7 described Penn as having an "unmistakable sexual fire to him" and a bravado of not seeming to care about anything. The writer also called an enigma, explained that he kept things to himself and no one knew where he had come from or who he had relationships with.

They do so but Justin confesses and Aden moves the body and tells the police he found Larry alone. The brothers face a charge of conspiracy to commit murder but Morag Bellingham successfully defends them and the prosecution drop the case. Aden and Justin then leave for the city without telling anybody. Sasha tries to get Rosie to touch a crab at the pier, but she becomes scared and falls into the sea. Rosie is invited to a toga party at Sasha's home and she is excited to meet Sasha's ex-boyfriend, Casey Braxton . Sasha notices Rosie talking to Natalie Davison and presumes that Rosie has problems.
Other original cast members Norman Coburn played high school principal Donald Fisher until 2003, and Kate Ritchie departed in 2008 after 20 years playing Sally Fletcher. Both Coburn and Ritchie along with Ray Meagher entered the 2002 Guinness World Records as the longest-serving actors in an Australian drama series. Meagher now holds that record alone and he is the only remaining original cast member in the show. Meagher along with Lynne McGranger , Ada Nicodemou (Leah Patterson-Baker) and Emily Symons are the longest-serving cast members currently in Home and Away.
He added that the storyline was something young children could enjoy because Rabbit is "feisty and mischievous" and there is an innocence to it all. Joshua "Josh" Barrett played by Jackson Gallagher, made his first screen appearance on 27 August 2013. The character and Gallagher's casting was reported by Debbie Schipp from The Daily Telegraph on 3 August 2013. Gallagher admitted he was starstruck when he filmed a scene with long term cast member Ray Meagher , adding "That was when it hit home." Josh was introduced to the show along with his brother Andy . On 14 May 2016, Kerry Harvey of Stuff.co.nz reported that Gallagher would be leaving Home and Away. His character will depart following his confession about shooting Charlotte King .
The sources of entertainment include television, satellite/cable, and DVD player. Onsite services include massage, private chef, and concierge. There are also certain rules that tourists need to abide by check-in time; check-out time; whether or not parties or events, smoking, pets and kids are allowed; minimum age limit for tenants; and a maximum number of tenants allowed to stay in a rental home.
Walton commented "I try to get back for a couple of months at this time each year, and the timing was perfect." Jade Montgomery is a teacher, who was on-screen for "over a couple of months", as her story led into the season finale for 2013. Nathaniel "Nate" Cooper, played by Kyle Pryor, made his first screen appearance on 26 September 2013. Pryor originally auditioned for the role of Andy Barrett, but Tai Hara was cast instead. However, the producers liked Pryor so much, that they asked him to return to try out for the part of Nate. Pryor had begun filming four months prior to his casting announcement.

In the UK, it and Neighbours, another Australian soap opera, are the most popular of the genre that are filmed internationally, with them both airing on Channel 5. It is one of the highest-rating shows on RTÉ Television in Ireland and TVNZ 2 in New Zealand. In Australia, Home and Away is the most awarded program at the Logie Awards, with a total of forty-eight wins, including Most Popular Drama Program.
